A wart (Also known as a Verruca) is a skin lesion caused by a Virus known as Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). They are often seen on the sole of the foot with patients presenting with pain at the site of the lesion. Often these are seen in children and young adults, however they are also commonly seen in the elderly and patients who are immunocompromised. A diagnosis of a wart is made clinically, however, the lesion needs to be sent to Pathology for verification. On debridement of the lesion the clinician will often see pinpoint bleeding.

Warts are generally painful and a nuisance to the patient. Various treatments for warts can include debridement with topical medications, laser removal, freezing, burning or surgical removal. During your appointment Dr. Valencia can discuss the best treatment for you. Dr. Valencia’s goal is to approach you, her patient, with the safest treatment as well as the treatment that will have you on your feet and back to work, school, or other daily activities in the shortest amount of time.
